Permaculture Garden for the Community
Kebun Tamansari is owned by a family of seven who recently built their second home in Penatih—one of the few areas in Denpasar that still preserves the lush landscapes and serene atmosphere of traditional Balinese villages. The permaculture garden is developed on rented land and is designed to support various activities—not just for the family, but also for the surrounding community.
The only area of the garden reserved for private use is the parking lot; the rest, including the edible garden and playground, is open for everyone to enjoy. The initiative has been warmly welcomed, especially by local children who now have a safe outdoor space to play and connect—something increasingly rare, even in rural parts of Bali.
As most Balinese are natural chicken enthusiasts, a chicken coop was a must-have addition. After all, no permaculture garden is complete without some happy livestock.
